3/21/2024 (Permalink)
No matter what type of disaster you face, SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen is only a phone call away.
We can relate to the struggles of business owners, as our SERVPRO® is independently owned and operated. We know how difficult it is to balance 20-plus things at once, all while running the everyday operations of a business. An unexpected disaster ruining everything would be the worst outcome for every business owner.
While none of us are able to perfectly predict or prevent natural disasters, we are all able to prepare for them.
We know that damage to the home can be just as stressful, too. Attempting to recover after sustaining any level of damage can be an overwhelming and painstaking process.
To get your home ready for handling destruction, you should make an effort to form an emergency plan. This starts by learning the kinds of disasters that we face most often.
Our American Red Cross has created a great website to help Americans prepare with information about general emergency preparedness. Our government has created 2-1-1 New Jersey, which is aimed at getting all of us in this state ready for our common disasters.
It’s likely that every homeowner and business owner will experience damage at some point. However, it’s always important for you to begin restoration quickly so that you can get the best results. Here is why we should be first in your mind:
Why Choose SERVPRO?
We understand that no two situations are alike. Although many disasters happen that require restoration in the United States, every situation will be different.
To show this, there are more than 14 million homes in this country that face annual flooding risks, but the damage each one suffers will vary for a number of reasons. Our experts are trained to handle any damage regardless of its scale.
We will begin by getting an understanding of your circumstances so that we can provide the best solution for you.
We are available 24 hours a day. On the topic of restoration, the most important thing to remember is that you need to act quickly. Not only does this prevent more damage from happening to your home, but it can also lower the costs of restoration significantly.
As water gets inside your home, it will likely damage your flooring, fabrics and furniture almost immediately. Even worse, as water is allowed to soak in, it will allow mold to grow exponentially throughout the affected areas. This is why our team is on call 24⁄7 so that you can get started immediately.
We provide more than simply damage restoration. Instead of merely restoring the damage to your home, we can help you every step of the way.
Our professionals are happy to help pack things away and prevent further destruction, and we can speak with your insurance company to make that process go better. We always strive to provide you with the best assistance in any way that we can.
Regardless of the damage you may face, your restoration professionals at SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen will be there for you! Our team has years of experience handling every kind of damage so you can feel confident going with us.
When you suffer damage to your home or business, it’s important that you know who to call! Contact us today to get restoration started faster.
Leave the Odor Removal Process to Us | SERVPRO® of Northwest Bergen

If you experience an odor or any other water or fire damage inside your home, call SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen 201-236-2400.
Home damage can come in many forms, and sometimes they can be hard to see with the naked eye. Sometimes you can smell them instead! In addition to tackling your home damage from storms, fire and water, we can also address any odor problems you have within your home or business.
All damage can cause lingering odors, and some can be hard to discover on your own.
In these instances, we can take it from there! Your SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen team is ready to tackle whatever odor problem you are experiencing with our thorough removal process.
Our Different Removal AgentsWe understand that each odor situation and home is unique, so we create a specialized approach for each project we tackle to make sure your home’s odor problem is completely taken care of. While the list below is not exhaustive, these are some of the most common ways we can address your odor.
Masking agents. Some smells need to be addressed right away while we are working on more in-depth methods. Our masking agents create a much more pleasant atmosphere for all of us!
Filtration agents. Another option is to just filter it out! We can pull the smell from furniture, carpets and walls with our filtration compounds.
Disinfectants and sanitizers. Any good cleaning requires sanitization to ensure the smell does not come back due to any leftover particles or bacteria.
The Odor Removal Steps to Success1. Remove the source. The first task is to locate what is exactly causing the smell! Once we do that, we can remove it and address the lingering odor.
2. Clean residue from surfaces. Once the cause of the smell is gone, we give the area a full cleaning to make sure nothing is left behind.
3. Recreate the odor-causing conditions. This step is important in making sure we got the entire odor. We use specific deodorizers to help recreate the original environment. This shows us residual particles.
4. Seal exposed surfaces. Sealing up the space doesn’t happen in every situation, but if we decide that the project is becoming too expensive or impractical to continue, we can seal off the area to prevent the smell from traveling.
We aren’t afraid of a little smell! No matter what type of odor your home or business is suffering from, your SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen team is here for you.
If you experience an odor or other damage inside your home or business, call us at any time, 24⁄7. We have the training and equipment to quickly get your property back in operation.

No matter the damage sustained, SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen has the tools and team to help your home return to a normal state quickly.
SERVPRO is well-known as a cleaning, restoration and construction business, but many people are unaware that we can also assist you in recovering from even the most severe natural or manmade catastrophes that affect your home or business.
Consider the following scenarios involving property damage that might occur in Bergen County and the assistance we can provide:
Water Damage
Flooding can occur at any time and has the potential to do significant damage regardless of how deep, whether an inch or a foot. Each year, flooding causes around $10 billion in damages in the United States.
If you own a home or commercial property, you are almost certain to encounter flooding at some point throughout your lifetime, especially in Bergen County. In fact, there is a 68% risk of at least one flood over six feet deep taking place between today and 2050 in the Bergen County area.
SERVPRO is prepared to help you if it strikes your home or business. We’ll assist you in determining the extent of the damage, so you can make the most educated repair decisions possible.
We possess the technologies necessary to identify and eliminate hidden moisture. Additionally, we’ll work with you to build a water damage restoration strategy that will guarantee your house is properly cleaned, dry and restored to its preloss state.
Fire Damage
Every 23 seconds in the United States, a fire department responds to a fire, and fire-related property damage totaled around $8.1 billion in 2020. If your house or business has been damaged by fire, we will immediately begin the restoration process utilizing our seven-step restoration strategy.
This process begins with an estimate and damage assessment and extends through all essential pre- and post-repair and construction procedures.
Storm Damage
Storms can cause tornadoes, hurricanes, severe winds, flooding, wildfires and blizzards. Storm and flood damage may be destructive to your property’s structure and contents.
Our objective is to promptly re-establish you in your newly restored property after storm damage. SERVPRO also specializes in content and document restoration, trying our best to first reuse and restore, rather than replace, damaged materials.
Dry cleaning, wet cleaning, foam cleaning and abrasive cleaning are all included in our cleaning services. If your property needs a more thorough cleaning, we provide full move-out services that may quickly restore it to its preloss state.
What Makes SERVPRO Unique?
We are here to serve you at any moment. 24 hours a day, seven days a week, you may reach a SERVPRO specialist by calling our 24⁄7 Emergency Line.

SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen Preparedness: Summer Heat Safety
7/1/2021 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen encourages everyone to practice HEAT Safety precautions.
Summer is here and it is time to consider safety precautions for extreme heat. Heat affects all people, but is particularly dangerous for the sick, elderly and young. Urban area residents also have a greater chance of being affected than those who live in rural areas due to the heat island effect.According to the EPA, "the sun can heat dry, exposed urban surfaces, such as roofs and pavement, to temperatures 50-90° F hotter than the air, while shaded or moist surfaces often in more rural settings remain close to air temperatures."
Whether you are in an urban or rural area, there are several things you can do to prepare for an prevent extreme heat from affecting you and your family. If possible stay indoors I the air conditioning. Remember to bring your pets indoors, or have shade and water available for them at all times. Stay hydrated and limit alcohol and caffeine intake.
If you must venture outdoors, wear light-colored, and loose-fitted clothing. It is also important to wear sunscreen when outdoors, and follow the instructions for application.
Pay attention to signs of heat exhaustion, which include: heavy sweating, weakness, cold, pale and clammy skin, nausea or vomiting, and fainting according to the Center For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC). Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, which is life-threatening. Signs of heat stroke are a high body temperature (103°+), rapid and strong pulse, and possible unconsciousness. If you think someone has heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move the person somewhere cool. Try to reduce the body temperature with cool, wet clothes or a bath. Do not give the person with heat stroke fluids, and treat the situation as a serious medical emergency. (CDC)
If you live in a humid climate, be aware of the heat index. The heat index factors in the humidity, which can make the temperature feel 15° hotter.
Extreme Heat Safety Tips to Prepare Your Home
- Install window air conditioners snugly, insulate if necessary
- Check air-conditioning ducts for proper ventilation
- Install temporary window reflectors (for use between windows and drapes). Aluminum foil covered card board can be used to reflect heat back outside.
- Cover windows that receive morning or afternoon sun with drapes, shades, awnings, or louvers, to reduce the heat that enters a home by up to 80%.

Consult. We’ll work together to customize a cleaning strategy that adapts to the needs of your unique context. It helps that SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen is locally owned and operated, so we are already accustomed to many of the complexities of northeast New Jersey.
Clean. Once we settle on an attack plan, we’ll get to the “fun” stuff—giving your building the cleaning of its life. Equipped with proprietary, hospital-grade cleaning suspensions that are effective against everything from MRSA to anthrax, we’ll give your workplace an extreme cleaning that meets or surpasses the CDC’s strict guidelines. And we’ll focus on more than COVID-19 prevention—our goal is to create a worry-free environment that gives your customers protection from a host of infectious diseases.
Certify. Maybe the best part is you have a way to let your returning customers and potential newcomers know about all this before they even come inside. With the Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned shield displayed in your window, on your door, and on your website and social outlets, you can radiate peace of mind to anyone who walks by or checks out your business.
If you’re ready to get serious about sanitation and have your business Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned, get in touch today to get the best team in cleanup and restoration on your side.
Destroy Odors With Deodoization
12/17/2020 (Permalink)
Fire, smoke and soot damages in your home or business can create unpleasant and potentially permanent problems. Even small fires can cause odors for years to come if the affected areas are not properly cleaned and deodorized. SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen County specializes in restoring, cleaning and deodorizing after the fire and possible water damage has caused odor issues at your property.
Other odors that may require deodorization:
- Cigarette Smoke
- Pet Odors
- Decomposition
- Mold
As various material burn, or other problems like mold growth go untreated, the odorous residues and deposits on surfaces are left behind. Unless fast, professional action is taken, these residues and deposits can cause permanent damage to contents and may result in resurfacing odors.
We have technicians certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration (IICRC), to handle specialized services that can rid your home or business of offensive odors left by fire or smoke damage.
Our services don't cover up the odor with fragrance; we seek out and remove the sources of the odor. Once the source is found, SERVPRO's own proprietary line of cleaning products is used to treat and prevent the odor from returning. Any restorable item in affected areas will also be professionally cleaned and deodorized, including furniture, draperies, upholstery, electronics, art, flooring, walls, ceilings, HVAC ducts and more.
Whether it's fire, water, mold damage, or just a stubborn odor that refuses to go away, SERVPRO of Northwest Bergen County will make it "Like it never even happened."

The 10th Anniversary Sean Fisher Memorial Event
11/1/2018 (Permalink)
SERVPRO Northwest Bergen is an active member of our community, and we are humbled to be able to participate in charitable events that involve our neighbors and friends within the community.
The 10th Anniversary Sean Fisher Memorial Event was held Sunday, August 19 - 5 pm to 7 pm at the Waldwick High School Turf field.
The event was held to Celebrate Sean's Life and Supporting the Sean Fisher Foundation.
Sean passed away on August 13, 2008 (his 13th birthday) during football practice on the WHS turf of an undetected heart defect. His parents, Sheila and Jim, created the Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation to provided funding for heart screenings for students to hopefully prevent this tragedy from ever happening again. This event is to raise funds and awareness, as well as to honor Sean's life. The friends of Sean's put together an Air band contest. What is an Air band? It's a fun way to play air guitar, air drum, air sing, air anything and jam to great music! NO TALENT NECESSARY!! It was a fun and beautiful way to show support of the Fisher family and honor Sean's memory.

Turn on the Green Light to Honor Verterans
11/10/2015 (Permalink)
Waldwick - Every Nov. 11, the nation takes a day to honor all those who have served in the armed forces.
This year, in addition to a procession at 10:45 a.m. in front of American Legion Post 57 and a ceremony at Veterans Plaza at 11 a.m., Mayor Thomas Giordano is urging residents to take part in an initiative that would make it more obvious just how much the borough supports its veterans.
"To show our thanks to our veterans in all they have done for all of us, I ask all Waldwick residents to change a single light bulb in the front of your home to green to show support for those who have served," Giordano said in a statement.
Giordano's call is part of the nationwide initiative called Greenlight A Vet. The website describes the initiative as a "campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green" with the color green signifying "hope, renewal and well-being" as well as offering a "greenlight" forward for veterans who are back home.
American Legion Post 57 Commander John Vervoort said he appreciated the initiative and Giordano's support of veterans.
"[In] our post, we've got men from the 'Greatest Generation' that served in the Pacific and European theaters and all war eras, up until now," said Vervoort. "I know, to me, I'm going to be very interested to see how many green lights are out there. It's going to touch my heart to see it."
For Giordano, along with recognition, the green lights will serve as a quiet "thank you" to all veterans.
"As Veterans Day approaches, I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to all our Waldwick veterans and all veterans for your sacrifices and selflessness as you make our country a better place," said Giordano. "Your dedicated service to our country will never be forgotten. You are examples of how courage and leadership leads to service. And we owe all of you a debt of gratitude."
